Society understands October 2nd in different ways. For many, it’s Gandhi Jayanthi; for few, it’s ‘dry day’, and may be for some, in some other way; but for sure everyone knows it’s a holiday!
I wonder why we have a holiday for public offices and businesses (meaning banks etc.) too, especially when they deal with customers day in and day out. I found this poster/ quote framed in many an establishments.
A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us; we are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work; He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business; He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him; He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.
With due respect, I am sure Bapu wouldn’t be happy to know about this. Taking his name, quoting him on the walls and saying ‘no’ to customers, that too on his birthday? Aren’t they missing that opportunity they get to serve?
